(Grades K-2)

The Fundamental Basketball League is designed to introduce “little tykes” to the game of basketball.  Our professional staff will instruct children in grades K-2  on the fundamental skills and basic principles of play. Alodia’s goal is to help players develop  the proper habits that will provide them with the foundation needed to continue improving.  The program is delivered in a fun and encouraging environment designed not only to teach basketball but increase the self-esteem and confidence of the children.

Participants will receive a reversible jersey to wear during their once per week  training sessions and at game day activities on the weekends. Practice sessions are one hour in length and will follow a carefully planned curriculum, while game day activities are designed to maximize the teaching opportunity and ensure that each child experiences success.

Our uniquely designed game day begins with an instructor led review session of the previous practice.  The review session is followed by a 15 minute 3-on-3 half court game that provides increased opportunities for each player to handle the ball more frequently than in a traditional full court game.

Game day concludes with a full court 5-on-5 game that consists of four six minute quarters.  During the full court game our staff will be on court providing guidance and encouraging the players, while serving as the game official.

The Fundamental Basketball League  utilizes the following to ensure that all participants  have the opportunity to be successful:

·         Lowered baskets-all games and practices will be conducted using 8' 6" goals.

·         Smaller basketball -27.5 in. balls will be used.

·         Colored wrist bands  - matching wrist bands are used to help players  find the player  they are suppose to guard.

·         Shorter free throw lines – players will shoot from 10 ft.

·         Everybody gets to shoot – each player will shoot a free throw to start each quarter. Made free throws count as baskets and of course the crowd will cheer wildly with each make.

Parent volunteers are also a critical component of  the Fundamental Basketball League.   Parents wishing to help our staff during practice sessions and game day activities should contact our office.

Studies show that the top four reasons why kids play sports are:

1. To have fun,
2. To improve skills and learn new ones,
3. For thrills and excitement of competition, and
4. To be with friends or make new ones

Alodia’s FUNdamental Basketball maximizes the experience of these four factors for young children beginning to learn the game of basketball in a Fun setting while learning fundamentals!

Alodia believes that the early experience of children being introduced to the game of basketball can carry over to the lasting enjoyment through many years!

The program promotes fun, learning and development rather than competition and winning. Players compete, but winning is not the end-goal. Children thrive on challenges. The AFB challenges players in an age and developmentally appropriate manner through its use of various drills and structured competition.

“My son, Lance, had the best experience of his life-to-date in sports! He had a blast, made new friends, and his confidence playing basketball increased significantly. Count me in for next season!”

n  Todd Dinkel, parent of 1st grader

“Coaching young kids in Alodia’s FUNdamental basketball is the highlight of all of the training I do! Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces as they come to practice and games and the high fives I get when they do something well is Priceless!”

n  Melvin Marks, Alodia Basketball Coach

“Building the basketball foundation for young children is one of the most important programs we can offer! Alodia’s FUNdamental basketball is much more than basketball instruction … it touches the heart and soul of each and every child and parent in our program. I personally invite you to come to experience the FUN!

n  Norman Schippers, President Alodia Basketball Academy
